Why does a grandmother need a blog?!

My oldest daughter, Missy, is a writer and has had a blog of her own for some time. I started to make one for myself over a year ago, but never did anything with it. She showed me how to do it when she was here for Christmas, 2008, and has challenged me to do my updates here instead by e-mail.

Chaplain Rick's Corner
Where are you going? Life is full of what I call divine detours. Most of us have a general idea where we are going in any given day. Some visionaries have their futures planned out. I have found in life that God gives us only so much light on our terrestrial existences. It’s much like driving at night. The headlights on our vehicles only illuminate a limited distance ahead of us. And if we are not attentive we can get in trouble quick because outside of our vision in the road ahead, could be a deer, a detour, a major pothole. I have often compared the Bible to a GPS with traffic alert. It charts a straight and narrow path to our heavenly home. Through the teaching found within the Bible we are warned about obstacles that can impede our progress. That doesn’t mean we won’t hit a pothole or two in the course of life, but we are warned about choices that can lead to a crash. I also believe that God sees the whole of time past, present and future; therefore, at the start the day, I ask for protection and to be open to His divine agenda. If we take time to read His word and pray before we rush into the day, I believe, instead of dreading the day, we will find His direction and protection. As the contemporary country song goes: “Jesus, take the wheel…”
